The Anacortes Housing Authority (AHA) recently provided an update to the Port of Anacortes Commission on its plans for the Olson Building during the Port’s regular Commission meeting on Nov. 6. AHA plans to provide 27 much-needed affordable workforce housing units above four commercial spaces at the Olson Building site.
During this update, AHA shared their plan to request two easements on Port property, along with details about project costs and timeline. The easements—one on the Port’s gravel area to the west of the Olson Building site and another to the north, where the former bike spot was located—are essential for the project to move forward, supporting construction and future resident access to the building.
Since 2023, after learning the project details, the Port has been working closely with AHA to assess potential impacts to the neighboring Marine Supply and Hardware building. Now in the final design phase, securing these easements is a necessary step for the project to advance. AHA anticipates submitting permit applications to the City in December or January and seeking construction bids in April 2026. The Port will continue coordinating with AHA to gather additional information and review the request before bringing it back to the Commission for consideration.
This project will provide essential workforce housing within Anacortes’ working waterfront—helping local businesses retain employees and ensuring community members have access to affordable housing close to where they work.
