Port Announces 2024 Employee of the Year

Each year, the Port of Anacortes recognizes an outstanding employee whose contributions have made a significant impact on our organization and community. We are proud to announce Maria Gray as our 2024 Employee of the Year and celebrate her incredible dedication, positivity, and hard work.
Maria joined the Port in December 2021 as our Facilities Custodian, and in just three years she has become an indispensable member of the team. Known for her contagious smile and unwavering commitment to excellence, Maria fosters a welcoming environment that sets the tone for the entire organization. From her first interview, Maria stood out as someone truly exceptional. “I thought she was too good to be true,” recalled Port HR Manager Lindsey Herrick. “She handled each moment with ease and had a great story to share. Three years later, I still enjoy every moment I spend with Maria.”
“Maria’s work ethic is second to none,” Port Facilities Lead Ed Jones shared. “No one would call her job glamorous and yet she consistently goes above and beyond in her role, ensuring our facilities are maintained to the highest standards. A clean and welcoming environment is crucial to any organization, and we are incredibly fortunate to have Maria setting such a positive tone.”
John Dumas, Director of Operations, summed it up perfectly: “We knew we hired a gem when Maria joined staff, but what she brings to our staff, tenants, and guests each and every day is extraordinary. She is fully dedicated to the mission of delivering world-class facilities to our customers, and she does it with a smile that is contagious. One word…ROCKSTAR!”
The standing ovation Maria received during the award announcement is a testament to the profound impact she has on the Port. The Port Commission also recognized Maria’s efforts during the December 19 Regular Commission Meeting, highlighting her vital contributions and dedication to the organization.
