Earlier this year, the City and Port signed two interlocal agreements (ILAs) that support the future development of a public event facility in Anacortes. These agreements outline how the City and Port will continue working together on the facility’s design, construction, and operations.
The signing of these ILAs was a milestone that built on the City and Port’s prior collaboration and their foundational work with the community to review the project concept, discuss funding considerations, and gather feedback on priorities for the venue. Currently at 10% design, the project’s design phase is now moving forward following the Port Commission’s authorization of a consultant contract for design services at the November 6 regular meeting.
The City and Port anticipate achieving the 30% design milestone by the end of this year, and will continue to collaborate on design throughout 2025 and 2026, sharing costs 50-50 per the ILA. The permitting timeline will be guided by continued progress on facility design.
The City and Port will work together to develop an event facility that meets the needs of the community and supports their shared goals of economic growth, tourism, and local job creation. Throughout the process, the City and Port will continue engaging with the community and sharing updates.
