Metro Ports partnership supports economic development for the region

On April 20 the Port of Anacortes signed an agreement with Metro Ports, continuing its decades-long relationship with the California-based company. This five-year agreement, with an additional five-year option, comes after Metro Ports’ successful bid on a formal Request for Proposal to provide stevedoring services at the Port’s marine terminal.

Metro Ports is a terminal operator and stevedoring company with locations and services offered throughout the country. Working with the Port and International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU), Metro Ports will provide services to move cargo safely and efficiently across the Port’s docks.

Stevedoring, the process of moving goods onto and off ships, is an essential service at the Port. Stevedores and the dockworkers involved in the movement of cargo help to support maritime operations and commerce at the Port and in our community.

The Port is continually seeking opportunities to diversify and create new jobs for Anacortes and Skagit County. This agreement with Metro Ports helps preserve and create family wage jobs on our working waterfront and supports economic vitality for the region. We are pleased to continue our partnership with Metro Ports and the ILWU to support the workers, families, and businesses in our community.
