December 23, 2025 | News

At the Port’s regular Commission meeting on Dec. 4, the Port Commission honored its two departing Commissioners, Jon Petrich and Jon Ronngren, with resolutions recognizing their critical contributions to our Port and Anacortes community.

Commissioner Jon Petrich

Commissioner Petrich served eight years on the Commission, beginning in January 2018. During his tenure, he held every leadership position on the Commission and served as a Commission delegate on multiple committees and organizations, including the Port/City Liaison Committee and Anacortes Community Boating.

Commissioner Petrich demonstrated a strong commitment to environmental initiatives during his time on the Commission. Through continued partnership with the Department of Ecology, he helped facilitate nearly $7.8 million in cleanup efforts to sites like Quiet Cove and Dakota Creek Industries. He also played a pivotal role in securing over $65 million from the EPA Clean Ports Program to fund zero-emission equipment and infrastructure for the Port and its partners, as well as $3 million in state funding for shore power, commercial pumpout systems, and electric vehicles. Commissioner Petrich’s efforts reflect a consistent focus on the needs of the community, environment, and economic development, while supporting long-term benefits for future generations.

Commissioner Jon Ronngren

Commissioner Ronngren joined the Commission in January 2022 and throughout his term served as Secretary, Vice President, and finally President in 2024. He represented the Port on the Skagit Council of Governments and the Marina Advisory Committee.

Commissioner Ronngren brought steady, thoughtful leadership over the past four years, and provided invaluable support to the Port during a period of operational change. Commissioner Ronngren also brought his human resources background to the Port, always keeping people at the center of decisions. His collaborative approach strengthened our regional partnerships and ensured that both people and processes remained aligned with the Port’s mission.

Honoring their service

We thank Commissioners Petrich and Ronngren for their years of leadership, dedication, and commitment to the Port of Anacortes and our community. Their guidance, contributions, and collaborative approach have left a lasting impact on the Port, and their service is deeply appreciated.
