Get to know Marissa Jagnow, our Executive Assistant! Marissa joined the Port of Anacortes team in August 2025. When asked what motivates her about her career at the Port, Marissa’s answer was to work with a fun, goal-driven team to help ensure a thriving economy and job opportunities for current and future generations—like her three-year-old daughter! Marissa is excited to be part of a team that has “a strong positive impact on the local community…from job creation to community engagement events.”

What about the Port’s mission is most important to you?
I love knowing that the work being done by the Port has such a strong positive impact on the local community in so many ways. From job creation to community engagement events and everything in between, the Port is truly making the community an amazing place to live, work and play.
What is the most exciting part of your career here at the Port of Anacortes?
Knowing each day will bring new, exciting opportunities to learn while working with a fun, hardworking, goal-driven team. It’s also amazing to know that the work I am supporting today helps ensure a thriving economy and job opportunities not just for now, but for future generations. I feel honored to be part of the Port!
What is your favorite thing about Anacortes?
The breathtaking natural beauty! I love driving to work every day and seeing the beautiful forests and water. Driving to and from work isn’t so bad when you have a nice view!
What is the one thing about you that would surprise people?
My favorite type of music is industrial metal. I’m obsessed with Rob Zombie music and movies. If you catch me at karaoke, get ready to hear me scream some Dragula!
What never fails to make you laugh?
Any movie with John Candy in it. Uncle Buck will forever be one of my all-time favorite movies. I’m laughing right now just thinking about it!
What are a few of your hobbies?
If you ask my three year old daughter, it’s coloring and playing with Barbies
(which I seem to be doing a lot of these days), but when this mom gets time to herself, it’s spent reading (ok, listening to
audiobooks) or going on hikes.
What motivates you to work hard?
I have been told I have the heart of a servant, so what motivates me is knowing that the work I am doing eases the way for others on my team. I also work hard to be a role model for my daughter. I want her to see the value of hard work, responsibility, and making a difference.
