A familiar face at the Port of Anacortes, Jenkins Dossen first joined the team in May 2003. Over the past 23 years, he has made a lasting impact through several roles, beginning as Construction Field Supervisor and later serving as Project Manager, Facilities Services Manager, and now Project Manager II.
In that time, Jenkins helped guide many of the Port’s projects, from concept and planning through construction and completion. His initiative, practical experience, and big-picture perspective have been integral to the Port’s success. He understands how each strategic action moves a project closer to its goals, which means his work continually helps the Port better serve its community through economic development, job creation, and environmental stewardship.
Just as important as his project leadership is the care Jenkins brings to the people he works with. He strives to create an atmosphere of trust, comfort, and collaboration, helping colleagues feel supported so they can do their best work. The Port is grateful for Jenkins’ dedication, leadership, and 23 years of service. The accomplishments of the project team—and the strong crew morale behind them—would not be the same without his presence.
What about the Port’s mission is most important to you?
The tenet of galvanizing our local economy and creating and retaining decent family wage jobs.
What is the most exciting part of your career here at the Port of Anacortes?
Consistency of Port staff over the years and decades in executing our mission. Also, delivery of projects that meet the Port’s mission with a keen eye on financial impacts and value-engineering to control costs.
What is your favorite thing about the Port of Anacortes?
One phrase, “dedication to mission.” There are a variety of projects and elements that we perform daily that purposefully deliver results that promote the Port’s mission of stimulating the local economy, jobs creation and retention, and commerce while protecting the desired quality of life.
What is the one thing about you that would surprise people?
Even though I’m hyper-driven, I try not to take myself too seriously. I’m always trying to lighten the mood and be open and inviting. I strive to create the level of comfort and trust in my colleagues that helps them engage in their work fully and execute to the very best of their skill sets.
What never fails to make you laugh?
Oh, simply smart but goofy comedy movies. A prime example is Office Space.
What are a few of your hobbies?
Gosh, where do I start… most sports and backyard grilling. And maybe most recently being a softball dad, fervently rooting for my pre-teen daughter’s softball team as they learn to play, battle, and appreciate travel ball.
What motivates you to work hard?
Family and the mission of seeing the bigger picture, acknowledging that each and every strategic action taken, ranging from early project planning, feasibility, conceptualizing, financial impacts, etc. to execution and physical delivery of projects helps us meet the Port’s overall mission.
