Meet Commissioner Mary LaFleur
Commissioner Term Start Date: January 2026
District: District 1
Why did you run for Commissioner?
I ran for Port Commissioner because I felt the Port needed experienced commissioners that know business and marine-related issues. It is a unique field and deserves qualified people.
What about the Port of Anacortes’ mission is most important to you?
I believe in the mission of creating family wage jobs, while also preserving characteristic boating lifestyle. Being a good steward of our resources is very important to me and so is community involvement in our Port issues.
What are the most important issues facing the Port and out community right now?
Maintaining our properties and using our land for the highest and best use for our community.
What is the best part of being a Port Commissioner?
Engaging with our community and working to help support and preserve the Anacortes marine sector.
What is your favorite thing about Anacortes?
It is a beautiful marine town. Anacortes has unmatched views of the waterways, activities for all ages, and the spirit of tourism.
What is the one thing about you that would surprise people?
I have a great deal of compassion. I was a former owner of a funeral service and loved to help people at the worst time in their lives; it was very rewarding.
What motivates you to work hard?
I have worked hard my entire life. I love business and making things happen.
