From Anacortes to Alaska: T BAILEY’s tank project takes shape at Pier 2

If you’ve recently been by Pier 2 at the marine terminal, you may have noticed some impressive new structures rising along the waterfront. These are part of an exciting project led by T BAILEY LLC, an Anacortes-based company that specializes in industrial steel fabrication and construction. T BAILEY is a leader in the Northwest industrial sector, delivering field-erected and shop-built tanks, steel casing, piling, penstock, and other heavy steel structures for fuel and water projects.

T BAILEY is currently building five large tanks at the marine terminal for Santos – Oil Search Alaska. Once completed, these tanks will be loaded and transported by barge, with T BAILEY partnering with Dakota Creek Industries and the ILWU for the loading and marine transport. Construction began in March and is set to wrap up by June.

“These tanks are part of a major part of a major project for Santos – Oil Search Alaska and will eventually make their way – by barge and truck – to a remote operating site in Alaska. Being able to fabricate them right here at the Port of Anacortes gave us a unique advantage,” said T BAILEY’s Pre/Post Construction Manager Jake Flores. “The Port’s deep water access and heavy haul corridor, along with strong support from both the Port and City, played a key role in navigating the complex logistics and keeping the operation running efficiently. This project wouldn’t be possible without the strong support of the Port and City of Anacortes as well as tremendous help and support from two of the Port tenants, Dakota Creek and Transpac Marinas.”

This project highlights the critical role the Port’s infrastructure plays in keeping local industry moving. The Port, in partnership with the City of Anacortes, provides an unobstructed heavy haul route from Highway 20 to Pier 2, an industrial pier that serves as a site for storage, construction, and fabrication, as well as offering direct access to barge and vessel berthing for seamless loading and marine transport.

The project and partnership with T BAILEY is also a reminder of the power of our waterfront—supporting skilled local jobs, activating key infrastructure, and helping bring big projects like this to life.
