You may have heard concerns about the recent commission-approved rate increase at Cap Sante Marina. At its July 15 regular meeting, the Port of Anacortes commission approved increasing moorage fees after providing public notice and holding two public meetings to discuss and receive public comment.
Information about the commission’s consideration of the increase was published on our website in commission agendas in advance of each meeting and covered in an Anacortes American news story published on July 7, prior to the commission’s decision.
Depending on the size of the boat slip, marina users will see a 3, 5 or 7% increase in their monthly rate. Commercial moorage is also set to increase by 3%. These rate increases are annual, taking effect each year on Jan. 1 for the next three years. The Port assesses moorage rates at Cap Sante Marina periodically to ensure they’re consistent with market rates and to make sure we can fund the maintenance, repairs, and services needed to sustain a world-class marina in Anacortes.
The Commission set and approved these new rates after reviewing current and future needs at the marina and cost estimates for continued maintenance and improvements. Costs for materials and labor continue to rise across the board, and the Port expects to invest more than $13 million over the next four years to maintain and improve the marina. Keeping our marina safe and functional with high-quality amenities means we can continue providing valuable services to permanent boaters and continue attracting guest boaters to Anacortes.
Marina users, whether permanent or guests, bring economic benefit to the entire community. They are part of our community, and they dine out, buy food and fuel, shop, and recreate here, contributing to jobs and economic vitality in Anacortes. Guest boaters spend more than 17,000 nights at Cap Sante Marina each year and the dollars they spend in our community add up to $2.5 million in annual economic benefit to Anacortes. The marina also supports jobs in customer service, vessel services, and facilities maintenance and construction.
The marina is a true community asset and just one way the Port of Anacortes supports jobs and quality of life in our community. Learn more about the Port, including our operations, tenants, events, public meetings and more at www.PortofAnacortes.com.
