During the Nov. 18 regular Commission Meeting, Port staff will share changes in district population that may require boundary adjustments to rebalance population for elected representation. If the Commission deems that boundary adjustments are necessary, the Port will publish a draft redistricting plan by Nov. 30 for the Commission to discuss during a special meeting on Dec. 9. The Commission could consider a vote on new district boundaries at its regularly scheduled Commission Meeting on Dec. 16.

The Commission wishes to hear community members’ thoughts and comments on boundary adjustments. Comments are encouraged at public meetings and can also be submitted via email at info-request@portofanacortes.com.

About redistricting
Every 10 years following the U.S. Census, municipalities and special-purpose districts in Washington state are required to review their voting districts to help ensure fair and equitable elected representation. Population growth and shifts within the Port’s five commissioner districts means that population in some districts has changed and boundaries may need to be shifted to rebalance population for elected representation.
