The Port of Anacortes is committed to conducting its operations in a sustainable manner. To benchmark and further improve its environmental performance, the Port’s marine terminal became a Green Marine participant in March 2019. The Port of Anacortes is now a certified member of Green Marine. In 2022, the Port completed its second audit of reported scoring. The Port improved in two performance indicators: greenhouse gases and stormwater. The Port is planning a series of incremental steps in the next several years to improve its operational baseline; Green Marine has been an important planning tool for this effort.
Green Marine is an environmental certification program for the North American marine industry dedicated to advancing environmental excellence. The program stems from a voluntary initiative by the maritime industry to exceed regulatory requirements. Green Marine is a rigorous, transparent and inclusive program that targets prioritized environmental issues such as greenhouse gases, community impacts, and water and land pollution. See the performance indicators below.
