P/Q Hoist

The P/Q Dock Small Craft Hoist has been a project considered by the Port as far back as 1991. This public access project, funded by the Port’s Tax Fund, was adopted in the 2009 Capital Improvement Plan and construction was authorized by the Commission on September 3, 2009. The project reached substantial completion in March 2010. The Port appreciates the tremendous input received from the Small Boat Center Group as well as the expertise of our consultants, contractors and planners in working to make the new small craft hoist a reality. We believe this hoist is a great asset to the Cap Sante Boat haven and will benefit not only our boating community, but also those businesses patronized by small boaters.

Operating Guide and Procedures

We’re pleased that many of our small boaters are eager to use the new hoist! Those wishing to use the hoist need to check in at the Boat Haven’s Harbormaster’s office to schedule training and be given an operating guide. Once you have demonstrated your understanding of the rules and ability to use the hoist, you can check out a use key, similar to the system we use for checking out a T-Dock hoist key.

Hoist Specifications

In spring of 2009 the Port met with the small boat association to come up with the design criteria for P/Q small craft launch. After subsequent correspondence with the small boat association a final design criteria maximum was established as the J-24 One design.

The J-24 Specifications are as follow:

LOA: 24 feet

Beam: 8.9 feet

Displacement: 3,100 lb

Draft: 4 feet

The facility was constructed as per this design criteria with a hoist load limit thus set at 3500 lbs.
