Commissioner Pope was initially elected Port Commissioner in 2015. Mr. Pope received Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Science Mechanical Engineering degrees from the University of Washington and is a Licenses Professional Engineer. He is a retired Manager of Engineering and Maintenance spanning a 34-year career in refining. Mr. Pope is the founding president of the Anacortes Small Boat Center and has served on the Anacortes School Board, the Anacortes Chamber of Commerce Executive Board and the Skagit Regional Transportation Planning Organization. He has been an active participant on steering committees for a number of outdoor trail systems on Fidalgo Island and is a longtime member of the Anacortes Noon Kiwanis Club. Mrs. Pope is retiired and also active in the Anacortes Community.
Joe Verdoes Commissioner 2017

Commissioner Verdoes was initially elected Port Commissioner in 2015. Mr. Verdoes is self-employed as a Puget Sound commercial fisherman and local businessman. He has a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration fromt he University of Washington and a Master's Degree in Developmental Studies from Deakin University, Geelong, Austrialia. Mr. Verdoes was a member of the Port's Marina Advisory Committee for seven years. Before becoming a commerical fisherman in1994, Mr. Verdoes was employed as an economic development officer for a small Australian community and operated a dairy farm in Mount Vernon, Washington. Mrs. Verdoes is employed in the family business.

Commissioner Niver was initially elected Port Commissioner in 2001. Mr. Niver received a B.S. degree from the University of Washington. He is a retired systems analyst with experience in both the private and public sector.
Keith Rubin Commission Vice-President 2017

Commissioner Rubin was initially elected Port Commissioner in 2005. Mr. Rubin's careers includes a variety of work on ferries, dredging, commercial fishing and seafood processing. He has owned and run several successful small businesses. Mr. and Mrs. Rubin are retired and spend time growing food on their small family farm. Mr. Rubin is a lifelong boater and is a volunteer with several boating organizations.

Commissioner Short was initially elected Port Commissioner in 2001. Mr. Short’s career included experience as a design engineer, aircraft administrator, college level business and economic professor, restaurant operator/owner and finally as an independent stockbroker of his own firm for 18 years. Mr. Short retired to Anacortes in 1996. Mr. Short has a BBA degree in Business Administration and an MBA, both from California Western University. Mr. Short is active in the Kiwanis Club's Thrift Store. He and Mrs. Short enjoy sailing and travel. Both are retired.
